Apple is ditching the physical SIM card

The days of using a small SIM card from a small tray in your iPhone may be over.

At a closely watched press event, Apple revealed

That it will ditch the physical SIM card and tray in its new iPhone 14 lineup in the US.

Apple is adopting a digital alternative known as eSIM.

The SIM card is a unique identifier on each cell phone that will be used for texting and calling

An eSIM refers to a SIM or a card that is hidden hardwired into the phone itself.

Apple first introduced eSIM support in iPhones in 2018.

Apple is now using e-SIM in iPhone 14 instead of physical SIM cards

The Federal Communications Commission states that eSIMs "carry security benefits."
