Korean smartphone and TV giant, Samsung, has lost an unknown amount of data related to an unknown number of customers
The short answer is that Samsung doesn't know how the data breach happened or at least,
It doesn't say that in the September 2nd press release, which simply says, "By the end of July 2022,
"Some of Samsung's US systems acquired information from an unauthorized third party".
Perhaps that's why Samsung's release is painful to note, even though it's not offering free credit monitoring to victims.
You are entitled under US law to one free credit report annually from each of the three major nationwide credit reporting agencies."
Samsung discovered the breach on August 4, 2022 and released this limited information 30 days later.
Data breach disclosure laws vary across the United States, but this is a general stipulation
That notification of such breach shall be made as soon as possible and without unreasonable delay.
